Design

With the first glimpse of Samsung Galaxy S9, you might be reminded of Samsung S8 because both of them are almost the same in design with Infinity Display, edge-to-edge screen, and rounded corner display.
Actually, you can hardly see differences between S9 and S8 according to their front pictures. Samsung S9 is trying to keep the slim, rounded design of its predecessor. And also, its buttons remain in the same positions as that on S8. Therefore, from a side view, you can still see that Samsung S9 is very similar to the S8.
As for the display of Samsung S9 and S9+, 5.8-inch panel ( S9 ) and 6.2-inch panel ( S9+ ) with Infinity Display Quad HD+ Super AMOLED ( 18.5: 9 aspect ratio) are available to choose from. According to the introduction of Samsung, S9 users can get a better viewing experience in broad daylight with Advanced contrast enhancement.

 

 

After having a general idea on S9, we can find that Samsung S9 has kept a similar design, but some improvements have been made to provide a better user experience.
First, the location of the fingerprint scanner in Samsung S9 is moved to the center of the phone's back, sitting below the rear camera. As many people considered, the most controversial part of S8 is fingerprint scanner which is sitting next to the camera. To avoid mistaken touching, a new position of the fingerprint scanner is necessary on S9.

 

 

Second, Samsung S9 still offers a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom edge of the phone. However, there are 2 speakers on S9. One speaker is at the top of the phone as before. The new speaker is at the bottom of the phone. Both of two speakers have been tuned by AKG, supporting Dolby ATMOS surround sound technology.
When it comes to color, there are 4 variants: Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray, Lilac Purple for most of you. What's more, some color options such as Titanium Gray version is not available to US or UK.

 

Variable Aperture

We can say that variable aperture must be one of the most impressive parts of Samsung S9. Variable aperture feature had already been applied on Samsung W2018 last year, but the majority of users still don't know what it is.
With variable aperture, you may take sharper pictures with less image noise in any ambient lighting conditions. Moreover, it can be automatically or manually adjusted for a better image. Samsung S9 offers f/2.4 aperture for bright scenes to get more sharpness on image and f/1.5 for low-light scenes to get more lighting on an image.

 

Upgraded Bixby and New Added AR Emoji

In the camera section, Bixby can't be missing. In S9 camera, Bixby has been upgraded, now supporting real-time detection, texts translation, and currency converter. For example, with Bixby on S9, when scanning foods with camera, it can display calories in the foods. What's more, you are able to have a better travel experience in a foreign country with instant translation on S9.

 

 

Moreover, the AR technology is widely used on Samsung S9. Just like iPhone X, AR Emoji feature will be also presented on Samsung S9. AR Emoji has the ability to capture users' face with front camera and will create a 3D character according to the data caught by camera. Of course, you are able to customize your own character by changing the hair style, skin tone, clothes or other options. And then, you can share the GIFs with your friends.

 

 

DeX Pad

In the previous teaser of S9, Dex Pad which allows users to use S9 as both a keyboard and a trackpad has successfully captured people's eyes.
Dex station was introduced alongside the last year's Galaxy S8. With Dex station, users are able to have desktop-like experience by connecting the add-on to an external monitor and DeX-optimized apps. This year, improvement has been laid down on Dex station which Samsung names it "Dex Pad" on S9. You can find that now your S9 is lying down flat while S8 is holding up vertically. More importantly, Samsung S9 not only can be the host but also can be both a trackpad and a virtual keyboard.
What's more, Dex Pad also offers a cooling fan and several ports such as HDMI, Type-C for power supply and USB.
