The 6 Best iPhone Apps and Games from Apple Design Award 2015
Every year at WWDC, Apple takes some time to recognize apps that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design to provide an immersive, fun, and compelling experience. Apple Design Awards at 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) had finally selected 12 apps from the broadest set of apps possible from the App Store and Mac App Store as Apple Design Award winners in 2015. These 12 winners range from games to education and stock trading apps. Here we picked the 6 most impressive.
1. Elementary Minute by Klemens Strasser (Student winner)
Elementary Minute is a simple and fast-paced quiz game… You will be confronted with different statements regarding topics range from math to geography to famous people. You need to distinguish whether the statements are right or wrong by swiping up or down. There are two available game modes. The Classic mode gives you one minute to get as many answers right as possible and the Rush mode gives you four lives and lose one each time you are too slow or get an answer wrong. The app, created by Klemens Strasser of Austria was one of the first games to come out for Apple Watch.
2. Metamorphabet for iOS by Vectorpark
Metamorphobet is a great kids learning app. It makes the alphabet interactive with visual representations of different letters, like a colorful human nose for the letter "n." Better still, it also features better vocabulary words than normal: for example, 'A' stands for arch, amble, and antlers, not apple or ant.
3. Shadowmatic by Triada Studio
Simple to the point of beauty, and beautiful to the point of becoming a work of art, this is a game you won't want to win, because you won't want the experience to end.
This game uses highly detailed 3D rendering techniques to combine a puzzler and a shadow play. To win, you need to solve puzzles by exercising your sense of spatial awareness, twisting three-dimensional shapes until their shadows are the proper shape.
4. Robinhood by Robinhood Markets
The first finance app that has ever received an Apple Design Award is Robinhood. The hook of Robinhood is that it allows you to buy and sell stocks quickly, and for free. You don’t need to pay any broker fees.
5. Crossy Road by Hipster Whale
Endless Arcade Hopper — Crossy Road is the number 1 viral smash hit you’ll never want to put down. This is a seriously addicting game! It made $10 million in just three months.
A variant of Frogger with clever animation and social features, Crossy Road is free to play, but there are optional in-app purchases to unlock stuff like new characters.
6. Workflow by DeskConnect
Selected as an Apple Design Award winner for its outstanding use of iOS accessibility features, Workflow delivers an excellent implementation for VoiceOver with clearly labeled items, thoughtful hints, and drag/drop announcements, all of which make the app usable and quickly accessible to those who are blind or low-vision. That’s also the real reason why I must highlight it here. Workflow has empathy for the color blind, the blind, and the handicapped.
