How to Import Bookmarks/Favorites from Microsoft Edge to Chrome

By FonePaw | May 04 , 2020

If you have used Microsoft Edge for years and now would like to switch to Google Chrome, you may wonder how to move the substantial number of bookmarks(or Favorites as it is called in the Edge browser) to Chrome.

This post will show you 2 ways to import favorites from Edge to Chrome. The first one is using the Import bookmarks and settings feature in Chrome to automatically add favorites to Chrome. And since some people found that their Edge bookmarks won't show up in Chrome after the automatic import, there comes the second method: export favorite to bookmarks file and then add the HTML file to Google Chrome.

You can try the first method first as it is simpler. And if the first method doesn't work for you, you should move to the second method.

Automatically Add Bookmarks from Edge to Chrome

This method works only when Microsoft Edge is still on your computer. If you have uninstalled the Edge browser, the bookmarks can't be imported.

Step 1: Run Google Chrome on your computer.
Step 2: Click the three-dot icon on the top right corner of the browser.
Step 3: Put your mouse over Bookmarks and select Import Bookmarks and Settings on the Bookmarks menu.

Step 4: On the pop-up window that opens, select Microsoft Edge and Tick Favorites/Bookmarks.
Step 5: Click Import. When the bookmarks have been imported successfully, open Bookmarks to check if there are your Edge favorites.

Unfortunately, the easy Import Bookmarks and Settings feature doesn't always work. When you can't find the imported bookmarks on Chrome, there is another way that can move bookmarks from Edge to Chrome.

Export Bookmarks from Edge
You should first export favorites from your Edge to an HTML file.

  • Open Microsoft Edge on your computer.
  • Click the three-dot icon on the top right corner of the screen.
  • Select Settings > Import favorites and other info.
  • Then click Export to File and select a location to save the exported bookmarks.

Import Bookmarks Files to Chrome
After the Edge bookmarks have been exported, you can import them to Google Chrome.

  • Run Chrome.
  • Click the three-dot icons on the top right corner of the screen.
  • Navigate to Mouse and click Import bookmarks and settings.
  • Select Bookmarks HTML file in the drop-out menu.
  • Click Choose File select the bookmark file of Edge.

That's how you can switch from Microsoft Edge to Google Chrome.
